Soaks Juniors selected for State Schoolboys

By Harry Ayers

Yesterday RugbyWA announced the U18’s state schoolboys side which included two Soaks juniors in Alexander Masibaka and Riki Wylie.

The Schoolboys received their playing jerseys at Rugby HQ where Matt Hodgson and Western Force coach Tim Sampson spoke to the players about the honor of representing their state.

The state representative squad will travel to Sydney to participate in the Australian National Division One Schoolboys Championship which will take place on the 7th of July.

They will play three games against various different states and with the chance to move into finals.

Alex has been with Associates for many years as a junior and has made an appearance in our colts side this year, being selected at flanker Alex will also be lucky enough to captain the schoolboys squad.

Riki Wylie has been in and out of the Associates juniors program for some time, while tied up with PSA commitments Riki tries to pull on the gold jersey as much as he can.

The Western Australian state schoolboy side is a great stepping stone towards the Australian U18s Schoolboy squad, many players out of Australian Schoolboys go on to either Super Rugby or the Wallabies.

The Schoolboy squad have a tough act to follow with the State Schoolgirl side winning the national championship in Canberra last week.

RugbyWA elected Jack Lloyd to coach the boys in their state campaign, Lloyd has a vast experience of coaching mainly over in the Eastern states being involved with Shute shield team the Parramatta Two Blues.

Lloyd outlined drive and determination as a major factor for the boys crediting their willingness to never give up, he also spoke about Alex’s ability to bring the squad together and bonding the group in such a short period of time.

The RugbyWA schoolboy program is now directly linked the Future Force program outlining a clear pathway to the Western Force.

This is a huge achievement by Alex and Riki and Associates are very proud to see the boys make it in such an honorable squad, the Soaks family will be following them closely as they kick start their career in professional rugby and we wish them the best of luck in Sydney next week.

For more information on the State Schoolboys squad check out RugbyWA’s article on the presentation.
