Threes to channel Gonville Bromhead this weekend

4 months ago By Anthony Cashman

It's a backs to the wall weekend for the thirsty threes this weekend at Kingsway as they look to Michael Caine for inspiration

“Why would I be interested in this game?” Michael Cheika

It's a must win game for third grade as they take on the fifth placed Roo Dogs at Kingsway on Saturday.

The side has been ravaged by injury and selection downgrades to twos, leaving very few able men standing. Seconds coach David Hart was heard to say "Geez, these thirds guys are all quality. They play the game like I live - fast and loose."

Unwilling to take this as an excuse for a poor performance manager, Cameron Webb, says "These guys left standing amaze me at how they get up for training and the matches every week. I'd give them my kidneys if I had any."

It's a homecoming of sorts for bullocking forward Alex Bodenstaff. He played his junior rugby for Wanneroo and can't wait to take the hallowed turf of Kingsway reserve. "I spend a lot of time up here in the bushes. So it will be nice not to have to creep around so no one sees me."

Another local is try scoring machine Swaino, who is hoping for more meat pies this weekend. He also wants to score more tries.

The team are hoping for plenty of the injured brigade to come and cheer them on... and maybe even take their boots with them so Casho has no reason to go on.

Game kicks off at 12.30
